Brought to you by THE CHILDHOOD AND YOUTH RESEARCH NETWORK and THE SOCIAL FUTURES RESEARCH HUB

DATE: Friday 11 October, 2-4pm

LOCATION: ClockTower 039 (105-039)

As new technologies such as Robotics and Artificial intelligence continue to grow in influence the very nature of what work means and how it is organised in the future will be radically reconfigured. Not only are new technologies reshaping the types of jobs available but also new practices such as
‘crowdsourcing’ and ‘gig work’ in the ‘sharing economy’ are reinventing and reconstructing the relationship between employers/ employees. What this might mean for the young in Aotearoa New Zealand is the focus of this panel session. This panel session aims to explore;

• What changes in work and work practices are we starting to see in New Zealand?
• How do we (can we) imagine it in the future?
• How do we think the young will be affected and what skills will they need in the future?
• Will there be work for all and how do we ensure a just and fair distribution?

The Panel will be asked to talk to the key questions above to open up a discussion on the floor. The panel members are involved in this area of work at a range of levels i.e. in national policy development, supporting and working with businesses in New Zealand, and working in education.

PANEL MEMBERS: Nik Green is from the New Zealand Productivity Commission – who is involved in a review for national government on the future of work. Judith Bessant – Professor from RMIT Australia and author of The Great Transformation: History for a Techno-Human Future (2018 Routledge) Wendy Kerr is Director, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Business School at UoA.
